Pitt Class Ring Ceremony

The Official Class Ring of the University of Pittsburgh symbolizes the unique and lifelong connection shared by students and alumni. It represents academic achievement, personal growth, and an enduring bond with the Pitt community.

Students who purchase a class ring are making an investment that will last a lifetime. For rings featuring the Pitt script, the ring is traditionally worn facing inward while you are a student so the Pitt script can be read by the wearer. This serves as a daily reminder of the hard work, ambition, and goals that led you to this moment. Upon graduation, the ring is turned outward so the Pitt script faces away from the wearer and can be read by others, symbolizing readiness to represent Pitt and share that accomplishment with the world.

For alumni, the ring stands as a tangible reflection of the journey from student to graduate. It is a lasting connection to your alma mater and a symbol of the heights you have reached since your time on campus.

On the evening prior to the Pitt Class Ring Ceremony, rings featuring the Pitt script spend the night at the pinnacle of the Cathedral of Learning. This tradition represents both aspiration and achievement—the heights students strive toward and the accomplishments alumni continue to realize.

2026 Marks the 9th Annual Official Class Ring Ceremony

The University Store on Fifth proudly supports the in-person ceremony that will take place at the Cathedral of Learning in the Commons Room. All Students and Alumni who have purchased a ring are invited to attend with their family and guests. In recognition of our enduring community, previous class ring recipients are also always welcome to attend upcoming ceremonies as we continue this uniquely Pitt tradition.

The Official Class Ring Ceremony includes the tradition of storing the rings in the highest point of the Cathedral of Learning the night before the ceremony. This exclusive location provides a magical element to the ceremony and a unique experience for those participating to know their ring is a true part of the Pitt tradition and community. This year’s ceremony will feature Pitt musical groups, remarks by the Pitt Alumni Student Network (PASN), and a keynote speech by Lorraine Craven, Executive Associate Dean of Student Affairs.
