The Refillery at the University Store on Fifth

The University of Pittsburgh is excited to be home to the area's first university with an on-campus Refillery! Anyone can reserve one or more products online for pickup at the Panther Den using our reservation form.

What Is a Refillery?

A Refillery is a type of “zero-waste” store where you bring (or buy) empty containers to reuse & refill with personal & home essentials (think shampoo, hand soap, laundry detergent, dish soap, etc). Refills are priced by the ounce (oz.) You choose the amount you want and pay by the weight.

The Refillery's Mission

The Refillery's mission is to reduce single-use plastic and packaging by making reusing and refilling easy, accessible, and affordable. We are committed to sourcing ethically, supporting makers and suppliers who uphold fair labor practices, environmental responsibility, and transparency. Through The Refillery's carefully chosen products and closed-loop model, we empower students, faculty, and our community to live more sustainably and shop with purpose.

What Do We Carry?

We currently carry hand soap, dish soap, laundry detergent (liquid and cubes), all-purpose cleaner, un-bleach (stain remover/bleach alternative), shampoo (liquid and bar), conditioner (liquid and bar), body wash, deodorant, lotion bars, dish brushes, and dishwasher cubes. About The Refillery & Its Founder

The Refillery was founded in 2021 by Larissa Russo, a Pittsburgh native. What started as a pop-up at the Neighborhood Flea, the Refillery became the first of its kind in the area. In addition to the Refillery located inside the University Store, they also have a store in Oakmont, PA.

“The Refillery was born out my desire to align my personal and professional values. I am passionate about supporting small business and advocating for a clean environment. My goal is for The Refillery to be a catalyst in our Pittsburgh community for eco-minded change, sustainable solutions, and healthy living.”
